My big fat Greek slumber party
I took the overnight ferry from Crete back to Athens last night. Since I have 16 hours of flights, 8 hours of layovers and the other usual transit time to look forward to when I leave Athens, I decided to spring for the more expensive (and more comfortable) cabin so that I have a place to sleep.
Now, I haven’t taken all that many ferries in my day. Prior to this trip, a “ferry”...
My #1 favorite activity in Europe
Not museums. Not people watching. Not even lazy coffee and gelato afternoons (although those are fantastic). No, my real passion is shopping for cheap, knock off designer sunglasses. The selection is amazing! Every time you turn around there is another stand selling them! I am up to 3 so far, and I really hope Bali doesn’t enable this habit because soon it is going to cut into my espresso...
No speak good English
I’ve begun to notice that after a few days of not being surrounded by fluent English speakers, I no longer sound like one myself. I speak with an accent and style incorporating some wild mix of Italian, Greek and Borat. Is nice! I use a lot of hand gestures and expressions. I drop all non-crtical words from my sentences and vocabulary. I even find that I sometimes incorporate the ambiguous...

After much reading and discussing and advice-seeking, I have decided to get a bus to Matala. The lady at the front desk made a face when I asked her opinion of the place, but it’s time to stop analyzing and just go.
So I go. And boy am I off the tourist track...
Heraklion, Crete
After leaving Emily in Santorini, I hopped on a ferry with my new Canadian friends to Crete. (Sidenote: i have met more Canadians on this trip than any other time in my life, and they are so far the NICEST people I have ever come across). I had not originally planned to come to Crete, because I was overwhelmed by the size of the island and the number of things to do. But everyone else told me to...
Santorini dreaming...
Life is good, and conveinently, one of my best friends is in med school in Israel, which meant that we got to hang out together in Santorini for 3 days.
What can I even say about Santorini? It is painfully gorgeous. Almost irritatingly so, at times - if you are momentarily annoyed or sad, it whispers to you “Psssst - you are in paradise - you should be ecstatic.” Just look at the...
